OOTD 28th July 2013 – Grandad Jacket

This OOTD actually came from me trying to take a good photo for eBay to sell this vintage oversized grandad jacket that I picked up for a fiver in a charity shop ages ago, but in doing so I actually fell back in love with it and decided to keep it! (slap on the wrist for that – I was supposed to be being ruthless!)

Its wayyyy too big on the shoulders but if you wear it with something fitted underneath you can usually avoid looking like a giant box (thank you shoulder pads). I wore it today with these Topshop acid wash denim shorts, and an H&M basic scoop neck.

Can hardly just believe I posted photos of myself online wearing shorts. BIG STEP FOR COCO. Raise your glasses!

Short Straw

This summer for me has been all about shorts. YES, shorts. Those of you who know me will know that every summer its the same. Me whinging about how my thighs are too fat for shorts, and how different my life would be if I could wear them. Well. This summer, its all change. I was encouraged to try a pair on by a friend, and well, I must say. Its pretty cool in the shorts club. No more sweating through the summer months in a pair of jeans, keeping my pasty pins hidden from the world. This summer they are out in force. They’re got a nice bronze glow to them, and the only part of me that isnt happy about it is my bank account. Of all my years of being addicted to shopping, shorts were always off the menu, so I am most certainly making up for lost time, and have snapped up quite a collection already. I figured its all about getting the length and fit right, and don’t be afraid to go up a size if you want the baggy fit. My problem is my small waist and colossal hips that clash almost as much as orange and yellow together, so high waisted is difficult for me. Yep, you guess it, I get that awful saggy part at the back, where my wide load of junk in the trunk is pushing it out but my waist is too small. But I’ve cut my losses, and they are most certainly a summer wardrobe staple for me, and will be for years to come!

Here are some of my faves:

L-R Topshop £32, Topshop £32, Miss Selfridge £22, Zara £15.99, Ted Baker £60

High Street Haul

Hello Monday. Its you again! Now, Monday doesn’t represent the same meaning for me as for most of the working world, but I still feel the need to address it. Monday for me is actually more of a relief, as it means the busy weekend period is over. Yep, you guessed it, I work in a pub. Monday brings with it an air of relaxation, quieter evenings, and less hungry diners to serve. But still, it is still the first day of a new week, and how better to commence it (especially when its the first of the month as well), than with some new purchases. Now, in an ideal world I would have gone out today and raided the shelves of Zara and the premium cosmetics counters in House of Fraser, but sadly my finances disagreed with that plan. So I set myself a challenge to pick up some new buys on a budget.

Here’s what I snapped up!

I finally managed to grab the Sleek blush in Rose Gold today, which I have been checking Superdrug for for months! It was ALWAYS sold out, but today I snapped up the last one!!!! Pretty smug I must say. I heard about Sleek products from my fave makeup vlogger Tanya Burr, and this one has great gold shimmery tones (great for summer) amidst a gorgeous pinky shade. Can’t wait to try it!

I also purchased some MUA products, as they are so unbelievably cheap and are actually pretty good. I had heard great things about the Undressed eyeshadow palette, which contains browns and golds – great for brown eyed girls like me! I went for the new version called Undress Me Too.

I got a MUA lipstick to add to my growing collection in shade 07. It was £1 so obviously I’m not expecting Chanel standards, but its worth a shot!

A shopping trip wouldn’t end with just one lipstick purchase either! I took advantage of No.7’s great vouchers (£3 off makeup), and got this Stay Perfect Lip Colour in shade Coral Rose. It feels really silky on my hand so I can’t wait to try it out. I think it’l be coming to work with me tonight!

Also from the MUA range, I took a gamble and got this £5 Pro Base Fixing Mist, which is supposed to hold your makeup in place all day long, protecting against wind and humidity. As a person who seems to shed any trace of makeup within hours, I thought I’d give it a go. Especially as the pub has recently become a sauna, resulting in us girls sweating under our black uniforms for 6 hours a day!

I have wanted an eyebrow kit for ages. Preferably the HD Brows Kit, but I just didn’t have the dollar for that at the moment. I went for one of the Fashionista range (at Superdrug), which was £7 and contains mini tweezers, a brush, a gel wax setter and three colours.

A picked up this super cute bag from H&M for £14.99, as I thought it was really versatile. It can be a clutch bag or a shoulder bag (great for day and night) and was a really nice neutral shade. It also comes in black, which was what I was going to go for, but I spotted this one and changed my mind. Also, but of an OOTD plug – my top is from Zara and my jeans are the Joni jeans from Topshop.

If you’ve read my blog before, I’m sure you’ll know how obsessed I am with camis. I scooped up this plain black one for £5 in Primark as a little summer wardrobe staple. I also have it in white with black edging. Great bargain! The straps are a little long for me but I just tied tiny knots in the back and it was perfect!

I must admit I splurged on this item – the Mango Body Scrub from The Body Shop. I was hoping they were still doing their 40% off, but when I discovered they hadn’t I couldn’t put the scrub down, it just smells so good!! I just finished my Soap and Glory Scrub, which I love, so this has a lot to live up to. I have the Mango Beautifying Body Oil too, though, so I’m sure this will live up to my expectations!

Last but not least, I saw New Look had some great offers on basics, and I bought this red bandeau top for £2!!! Amazing! If you’re a crop top worshipper (which I most certainly am NOT due to my lack of abs), they had some great bits too, for around £2 – £4. Go on, go and make me jealous and flaunt your toned tums in those!!!

Reviews of all these to come!

Have a great week!

I’ve surrendered to OOTD.

Having said I would never partake in OOTD, I hold my hands up. I have surrendered to the craze, and here is my first offering. Now, I wish I had gone for something a little more exciting for my first one, but its my new pale blue cami that I mentioned a few posts ago, so I just had to sneak it in there! For me this is simple but classic.

I’m wearing Topshop Cami, Topshop Joni Jeans (Super stretchy, love love love these), Warehouse Jacket, Topshop Boots, Michael Kors Handbag, and Primark Necklace.

I love the back of this warehouse jacket, and people always stop me in the street and ask me where its from! Sorry for the awkward mirror shots! I haven’t yet found my camera that I lost somewhere in my room a while ago! I am also wearing no makeup and my hair isn’t done, but as its a far away shot I don’t really mind posting it on here.

I bought my Michael Kors bag a couple of weeks ago as a 22nd birthday present to myself, and I could not be happier with it. It was £260 which I think is pretty reasonable, and the quality has so far been amazing. It is made of Saffiano leather, which is one of my faves. Although it doesn’t have the softness of cow leather, it is really strong and you can tell its going to last for ages. Prada use it a lot too.

The boots aren’t as red as they appear in this pic – they’re more of a deep maroon. I got these for Christmas from my Dad (he didn’t pick them, I chose them!) and they are the most comfortable heels I have ever worn!

I’m off to lunch today with some work friends and then hopefully catching a bit of sunshine! Have a lovely weekend all xx

‘Top Marks’ and Spencer

Today I was walking through Marks and Spencer, and actually couldn’t believe the number of little old ladies I passed. Okay yes it is their holy grail, well, that and garden centres, but there was not a single young person about! Anyway, as I was dashing through the boot cut trousers and linen shirts (making a beeline for the food hall as always) I spotted some unusually stylish finds for such s grandma friendly haven.

I spotted these pastel ankle strap sandals at just £25.00 for from the limited collection range. How bang on are these?! I can hardly see even the most stylish of grannies prancing into book club in these, can you?!

And how about these colour block courts with Insolia, which works by shifting the weight from the ball of your foot onto your heel to enhance comfort and better body alignment. So basically, party friendly shoes! At last! Available in bluered, and black/white for just £55.00.

Finally, why not splash out on a pair of these sleek Italian leather court shoes that’ll last you ages. They will set you back £129, but with Insolia, they’ll be perfect for the office and the weekend. Available in caramel or nude. They’re slightly different styles, but equally classic and staple.

Slut Croppin’

Its fair to say ive been off the radar for some time, because, yes, its exam time. Waking up to the reality that you won’t be leaving the house except a quick dash to the library for text books on international something or other, is pretty bleak, but hopefully itl all be worth it in the end!

I’ve been wanting to write this post for a while now, but things kept getting in the way. I am warning you now, its basically a giant moan about being too fat for little tops, so if you are a) skinny or b) against fat girl moans, leave now.

Here goes…

Yes, thats right, I know you’ve all seen it. Almost everything around at the moment is cropped. And all the new emerging trends are just a variation on the crop! And all everyone is seen wearing at the moment is crop tops with skater skirts, crop tops with midi skirts, crop tops with shorts, crop tops crop tops crop tops!

Even if us curvy girls all knuckled right down, signed our lives away and dedicated every waking minute to achieving a banging flat stomach, they would probably be out of fashion by then anyway! (because lets face it it would take me YEARS. she says feeding a slice of Dominos Sizzler in her mouth.)

And to make matters worse, the bloat broadcasting doesn’t stop there! How many times have you spotted a dress in a store only to find that it is riddled with sheer mesh sections right where your flabby bits are, or cut out patches around the sides?! I mean WHO would want to expose just their sides in a dress?

So, all in the spirit of boycotting the trends that are simply UNFAIR, my summer will be spent in search of curve flattering dresses, that would be worn best by a girl with a bit of meat on her bones and a decent pair of twins, that the crop clan can only envy!

Here they are!

Left to right: Asos £45, Mango £44.99, Topshop £45

What ever NEXT?!

Its Sunday, and I am unfortunately not getting a lazy sunday, I’m almost off to work, but thought I’d drop a post while drinking my coffee before I shoot off.

I’ve had a busy week this week! Handed in my dissertation and proceeded to spend the week drinking, eating and shopping. Can hardly complain! But anyway, back to business now!

My inspiration for today’s post has actually been building up for a while. Now, if someone said to you, have you been into Next recently, I bet most of you under the age of 40 would say no. Well high street shoppers, we have most certainly been missing out! Yes, okay, some of the items may be more aimed at ‘comfort on the school run’, but there are actually quite a few good buys in there, AND they’re a bargain, AND Next tend to size quite generously, so you can buy something a size smaller than normal and still have a Krispy Kreme on the way home! Winning!

So, next time you’re out shopping, pop into Next and have a look. Trawl through the cargo shorts and mumsy v necks, and you’ll almost certainly be surprised!

Here are some top picks at the moment, all available from Next.

The Fashion Blogger’s Guide to the Galaxy

Oh hi again. I know right, back so soon. What can I say, I’m feeling inspired. And in the world of writing, when you feel inspired, just run with it, before you get hit with a bout of writers block and you can’t string together a McDonald’s order let alone a fashion post.

So the topic of today’s talk is GALAXY. No, not the smooth, silky, dreamy, marriage worthy chocolate bar, the print! Unless you’ve been living in some sorry, fashion deprived location like Cornwall (sorry Cornwallers for the generalisation) for the past year or so, you will have seen galaxy prints are everywhere. Now, while I am a lover of the print, in some places it has admittedly gone too far. Yes I am talking about Missguided.com. If you type ‘galaxy’ into their search bar, you get rows and rows of different dress styles, leggings, shirts, trousers, t-shirts, crop tops….pretty much every piece of clothing that has ever been worn can be purchased in galaxy print from these guys. Don’t get me wrong, theyre great, some real bargains and designer inspired bits, but there is just SO much on there I eventually get bored of trawling through (Asos take note. You’re overwhelming me too!).

Now, Christopher Kane has been one of my favourite designers for years now, and unsurprisingly, this guy nailed galaxy prints in 2011. Dresses, jumpsuits and tank tops were all made in the galaxy prints, and they look amazing. The print looks great in silk, but his galaxy dresses will set you back over £1000, and the tops well into the hundreds, and there are so many on the high street now, you needn’t pay these price tags!

For trends like galaxy, your best bet is to hit the online fashion retailers, like asos, boohoo.com, fashion union, own the runway, and missguided, as they generally have more choice and variation.

Here are some summer friendly, galaxy printed picks i’ve sniffed out:

This cute shirt is £17.99 from OwntheRunway.com

This playsuit is £38 by Sparkle and Fade at Urban Outfitters

This chiffon shirt with leather collar is just £12.59 from Missguided.com

I hope you have enjoyed my guide to the galaxy. I’m not a hitch hiker, I’m just a blogger 😉

Bottoms Up!

Oh hi,

How are we? Yes, its Monday, and that’s lame, but there is plenty to be smiling about.

After all, they say its the little things, and tonight I have chosen the pressing topic of trousers to bring to the table to discuss!

Anyone who shops in H&M will know they have had a range of printed trousers all at around £14.99 for a while now, and only recently have I been brave enough to give a pair a go. Now anyone with any sort of decent hip circumference will know that in that store you pretty much just have to go in there with your head held high, grab a pair of trousers about 5 sizes bigger than usual, and skuttle into the changing rooms chanting “they’re really a size 8, they’re really a size 8” when theyre really way into double digits.

So, thats what I did, and I was pleasantly surprised. I picked up a pair of dark red, sort of carpet printed ankle length bottoms for just under 15 big ones, and have never looked back. Now yes, the old thigh area could do with being a little slimmer to fully make them work, but to be honest I do not care! They’re different, casual cool, and can be dressed up or down, AND they’re a sweet price. You might think they’re not your style, but its definitely worth a go. I’ll certainly be heading back down there and scooping up a few new pairs once the final student loan hits my bank account next week! (yes, final student loan. where did four years of financial salvation disappear to!?)

Anyway, not a long post tonight as its late and I have my fashion marketing portfolio to crack right on with early tomorrow!

Got a cracking post on dogs for you all soon. Tune in.

Oh, and here’s a snap of the carpet print trousers teamed with a slouchy H&M black jumper, Topshop chunky necklace and Russell and Bromley brogues. Image
